Best Urethroplasty Treatment in Jaipur

Urethroplasty is the gold standard surgical procedure for the permanent and definitive treatment of urethral stricture disease (narrowing of the urinary tube). At Manav Hospital, Jaipur, we are recognized as a premier center for complex urethral reconstructive surgeries.

Under the leadership of Dr. Sandeep Nunia, an acclaimed urologist and reconstructive surgery specialist in Jaipur, our hospital delivers exceptional cure rates for both simple and complex urethral strictures, recurrent strictures after failed endoscopic procedures (OIU/dilation), and traumatic pelvic injuries.

Utilizing state-of-the-art microsurgical equipment and advanced Buccal Mucosa Graft (BMG) techniques, we reconstruct and restore normal urinary passage, allowing patients to urinate freely and painlessly without the need for repeated dilations.

What is Urethroplasty?

Urethroplasty is an open or reconstructive surgical operation performed to repair an injured, scarred, or narrowed urethra. A urethral stricture develops when scar tissue narrows the lumen of the urinary passage, causing weak urine flow, straining, painful urination, incomplete bladder emptying, and recurring urinary infections.

While temporary procedures like urethral dilation or Optical Internal Urethrotomy (OIU) frequently fail due to scar recurrence, urethroplasty provides a long-lasting, definitive anatomical solution by removing the scarred segment or augmenting the passage using healthy tissue grafts.

At Manav Hospital, comprehensive diagnostic evaluations such as Retrograde Urethrogram (RGU), Micturating Cystourethrogram (MCU), and uroflowmetry are performed to accurately map stricture length and location for optimal surgical success.

Urethroplasty Overview

Types of Urethroplasty Procedures at Manav Hospital

Depending on the stricture’s location, length, and severity, our surgical specialists perform tailored reconstructive procedures:

Buccal Mucosa Graft (BMG) Urethroplasty

The premier technique for long anterior urethral strictures, where a small patch of inner cheek mucosa is grafted onto the urethra to widen the passage with minimal donor site discomfort.

End-to-End Anastomotic Urethroplasty

Ideal for short bulbar strictures (under 2 cm), where the diseased scarred segment is excised completely, and healthy urethral ends are meticulously sutured together.

Posterior Urethroplasty for PFUDD

Reconstruction for complex pelvic fracture urethral distraction defects resulting from road accidents or major trauma, restoring natural urinary continuity.

Penile Urethroplasty & BXO Repair

Specialized single-stage or staged reconstruction for strictures caused by Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO/Lichen Sclerosus) or hypospadias failure.

Two-Stage Reconstructive Urethroplasty

Planned staged surgical repair designed for severely diseased, infected, or previously multi-operated urethral strictures to ensure the highest safety and success.

Female Urethroplasty

Rare and specialized reconstructive surgery using mucosal or vaginal wall flaps for women suffering from chronic female bladder outlet obstruction and strictures.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Urethroplasty is a reconstructive surgical procedure that permanently repairs a narrowed or injured urethra (urethral stricture). It involves removing the scar tissue or widening the urinary canal using a tissue graft (such as from the inside of the cheek).

Dilation and Optical Internal Urethrotomy (OIU) only temporarily stretch or cut the scar tissue, resulting in a stricture recurrence rate over 70-80%. In contrast, Urethroplasty reconstructs healthy tissue, providing a permanent cure rate of over 90-95%.

BMG Urethroplasty uses a small layer of tissue taken from the inside of the cheek (buccal mucosa) to reconstruct and widen the narrowed urethral segment. The mouth lining heals rapidly within a few days without visible scars or long-term speech/eating problems.

A small urinary catheter is typically kept in place for about 2 to 3 weeks following surgery to allow the newly reconstructed urethra and graft to heal completely. A pericatheter dye study (RGU) is usually performed before removing the catheter.

Patients are usually hospitalized for 2 to 3 days after urethroplasty. Most patients can walk comfortably the next day and resume light office work within 7 to 10 days while the catheter is in place.
